Paladin Supports Four Schools in Manus with New Classrooms

Paladin Group is partnering with Kingfisher Security to deliver four new fully-equipped classrooms for schools in Manus as part of its commitment to supporting the communities in which it operates.

The new classrooms will be given to Tingou Primary School, MBuani Elementary School, Nuwok School and Loamat School (Rambutyo Island) which are all located in remote areas of Manus.

This initiative is being supported by Manus Provincial Governor Charlie Benjamin and is in keeping with his commitment to improve health and education services across the province. Representatives from the Governor’s office attended the official opening ceremony of the first of these four classrooms which took place yesterday.

Kingfisher are constructing the prefabricated classrooms to ensure they are easy to transport and set up in remote locations, while Paladin Group managed the procurement and provision of the school furniture for the classrooms including 160 tables, 320 chairs, 12 teacher desks and eight whiteboards and chalkboards.

David Saul, Paladin Group’s CEO and Managing Director, commented “Paladin works with communities to build, operate and transfer capacity to create enduring legacies. Our support for schools is another example of our commitment to support and transfer skills and knowledge to the communities in which we serve. These new facilities will improve local children’s educational outcomes and have a positive impact on the community for generations to come.”

Dr Shelby Higgs, Paladin’s PNG Services Contract Manager and international development specialist said “Recent research conducted by Paladin identified overcrowding and insufficient classrooms to distinguish levels of learning as factors impacting both access and participation to education in Manus. These new classrooms will help to address these issues and provide children with opportunities to enrich themselves and their communities.”

Research based, community-led, sustainable solutions are integral to Paladin’s community engagement program.

With over 4,500 staff and contractors working across the Asia-Pacific, the Paladin Group is a leading provider of security and support services for major projects in the region.
