Representatives of Paladin recently had the pleasure of attending the Grand Final of the Pikus Tree volleyball competition. This four-month tournament was the worthy successor to the Poroman Cup which was held by the Paladin-Peren Community Team in 2018.
In line with our build, operate and transfer model, responsibility for the 2019 tournament was handed over to the local Lorengau Volleyball Association, who did an excellent job running and coordinating the competition.
Since its beginnings as a 20 team all-female competition, it was fantastic to see the 2019 tournament grow to include 21 female teams and a brand-new male league comprised of 20 teams. Hundreds of members of the community participated in the four-month tournament, with hundreds more supporting and cheering on from the sidelines.
During the closing ceremony, Paladin presented the winners with specially designed locally carved wooden based trophies as well as screen-printed shirts, while Peren generously provided cash prizes to the winners.
We look forward to seeing next year’s competition continue to grow and will be back cheering on from the sidelines again!
